Description

Mrs. James Lock sits in an armchair holding her infant son, Martin Timothy Lock. They were saved by a blood transfusion using donated blood to the American Red Cross. Mrs. Lock began hcmorrhaging while pregnant with Martin and required immediate surgery and three pints of an uncommon type of B positive blood during the operation. Only four pints of this type were on hand at the hospital and she and her baby would have died had it not been immediately available. Beside the chair is a stand with a lamp and a bottle on it. Behind the chair is a window covered in a long drape and a basket of newspapers in the corner.
